Student Employment Programs
Merrimack College offers a wide variety of employment opportunities on and off campus through federal work-study and college employment programs.
Federal Work-Study
More commonly known as "work-study", many people use this term to identify all student employment programs. Some also believe that they can "study" while they "work" but that is not the case. The Federal Work-Study Program is a government funded program available to students who have completed the FAFSA application and have a financial need. Most departments on campus and non-profit organizations off campus, only have access to these funds. To ensure eligibility for this program, students should contact the Office of Financial Aid.
College Employment
This program is for students who did not file the FAFSA or are not eligible for the Federal Work Study Program. Students are paid through college funds. In general, most students work six to ten hours per week depending on their class schedule at a minimum rate of $8.00 per hour.
Paid Community Service
Students who are eligible for the Federal Work Study Program and who have an interest in working through a non-profit agency should contact the Student Employment Office of Financial Aid. Job opportunities are more readily available and rates are somewhat higher. Transportation may be required.
Students are paid bi-weekly through the Merrimack College Payroll Office (2nd floor, Austin Hall). Direct deposit is recommended for fast and secure payment.
