Modern Languages
Welcome! Bienvenue! Benvenuti! Bienvenidos!
The Department of Modern Languages offers majors and minors in French, Romance Languages, and Spanish and a minors in Italian and Italian Studies. The department works with the Department of Education to support certification programs (K-12) in French and Spanish. Our offerings include language classes from elementary to advanced, as well as courses in conversation, composition, civilization, literature, culture and film.
The department offers a varied curriculum designed to develop skills in reading and writing, to promote understanding and appreciation of world cultures and literatures, and to enhance students' ability to communicate in the target language. In order to achieve these goals, a proficiency-oriented approach is used, which is student-centered rather than the more traditional lecture approach.
All advanced level courses are taught in the target language and include video and audio features.
