Jim E. Stewart is an associate professor of management. He joined Merrimack College in 1978 and has over 30 years teaching in higher education. Prior to that, Prof. Stewart served on active duty with the United States Air Force for seven years. Following his return he continued his service with the Air Force Reserves and then the New Hampshire Air National Guard. As part of his military service, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the U.S. Air Medal (nine awards), the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star, and the Vietnam Service Medal with valor device along with two awards of Outstanding Unit Awards with valor device for service with the 4th Special Operations Squadron. He served in South Vietnam, Thailand, and Spain.

Prof. Stewart has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a Master of Business Administration degree in Management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. He completed his Ph.D. coursework at Boston College and received a “pass with distinction” in his qualifying exams. He has served on several boards and continues to serve on the Board of the Society for the Advancement of Management. For over ten years, he has served as director of the National Management Case Study Competition conducted by the Society.
