Cost and Financial Aid
1. Students pay Merrimack College a “Study Abroad Fee” of $500.00 per semester abroad.
This fee holds their place as a full-time student at Merrimack College enrolled in Study Abroad; as such, they have rights to financial aid, housing placement for the return semester, pre-registration, and eligibility for health insurance coverage as a full-time student. Students also have the right to the transfer of credits for the successful completion of pre-approved coursework taken abroad. In addition, the Study Abroad Fee covers the following College services offered to the student:
• Study Abroad advisement and support during the program
• Bursar services
• Financial Aid services
• Registrar services
• Resident Life services
2. Students pay their program costs directly to the program abroad. These costs include:
• Tuition and fees
• Housing
• Meals
• Health insurance (if required by the host institution; in other cases, students will be covered by their family insurance or perhaps by the Merrimack College health insurance for which they would be billed by the College)
• International airfare and in-country transportation costs
3. Students have access to the following financial aid:
• All loans including FFELP student loans, PLUS loans, Perkins, Mass No Interest Loans and alternative loans that are approved for study abroad.
• All Federal grants including PELL and SEOG grants.
• All state grants ( need based and merit)
• Outside scholarships
4. Students do not have access to any Merrimack College institutional aid.
Merrimack College institutional aid is used solely for study on the Merrimack campus.
5. Students are responsible for making direct payments to their study abroad program provider.
Students would need to arrange for the timely payment of funds to the institutions abroad (or to the study abroad sponsoring organizations in the USA) by appropriate means (eg., wire transfers, check, etc.) The Study Abroad Office will provide orientation sessions concerning the procedures for making international payments.
