Application Process
Each year approximately 60 Merrimack students participate in academic year and summer programs abroad. Students may study nearly any academic discipline in a variety of countries. Students that wish to go abroad during their junior year should begin the application process during their sophomore year. Students may participate in a summer program as early as their freshman year. The Office of International Programs (OIP) is excited to help you explore options and select a study abroad program that will meet your academic and personal needs.
1. Meet the requirements
Eligible students must meet academic and disciplinary requirements in order to study abroad.
2. Prepare and Research
3. Meet with an OIP advisor
All study abroad candidates are required to meet with an OIP advisor to begin the application process. Please call x5210 to schedule an appointment.
4. Meet with an Academic Advisor
Students should meet with an academic advisor to discuss how they will incorporate a semester or year abroad into their Merrimack program of studies. Students going abroad on a summer program do not need to meet with an academic advisor, although it is recommended.
5. Apply to a program
Students applying to a Merrimack study abroad program will receive an application from OIP. Completed applications should then be returned to OIP no later than the marked deadline. Students applying to an Approved External Program will acquire and submit an application to a program on their own.
6. Once Accepted
Students will receive official notification of their acceptance either from OIP (for Merrimack programs) or from their external program provider. Students attending Approved External Programs are kindly requested to submit a copy of their acceptance letter to OIP. At this stage, students should also obtain course approvals for courses they would like to take abroad.
