Breast Cancer Research Stamp

Available now at the Campus Post Office – support the fight against breast cancer through your purchase of this first class stamp

Since the stamp first went on sale in 1998, the United States Postal Service has sold more than 829.12 million stamps, raising over $63.17 million for breast cancer research. The stamp currently costs 55 cents and is deemed valid as a 42-cent first-class stamp. The additional 13 cents charged for each stamp is directed to research programs at the National Institutes for Health, which receives 70 percent of the net proceeds, and the Department of Defense breast cancer research programs, which receive the remaining 30 percent of the net proceeds.

The Breast Cancer Research Stamp is offered through the United States Postal Service as an alternative to a first-class postage stamp. Purchasing the stamp is a convenient and voluntary way to contribute in the fight against breast cancer. Congress passed The Stamp Out Breast Cancer Act of 1997 and the stamp was first issued on July 29, 1998, becoming the country’s first fundraising stamp. Congress has reauthorized the sale of the stamp through December 31, 2011 at which time the Breast Cancer Research Stamp will again need to be reauthorized by Congress in order to keep it on the market.

Forever Stamp Info

What is this Forever Stamp that I'm hearing about?

The Postal Service has issued the Forever Stamp priced at the new First-Class Mail single-piece 1-ounce letter rate - 42 cents. The value of the Forever Stamp will always be the First-Class Mail single-piece 1-ounce letter rate that is in effect on the day of use (mailing), unaffected by any subsequent changes in the future.

Additional postage will need to be affixed to letters weighing in excess of 1 ounce, letters subject to the nonmachinable surcharge, or mailpieces subject to another rate of postage (e.g., large envelopes or packages).

How much is the Forever Stamp?
The Forever Stamp is available in booklets of 20 for $8.40.

Is the Forever Stamp available in coils or other formats?
No, but we  have a  42 cent flag stamp available in coils of 100 and panes of 20 and 100, as well as individual quantities. The flag stamp is not a forever stamp.

Can the Forever Stamp be used for International Mail?
Yes, but keep in mind, the postage value of the Forever Stamp is the domestic First-Class Mail single-piece 1-ounce letter rate that is in effect on the day of use (mailing). Since the international postage rates are always higher than the comparable domestic rates, additional postage would have to be affixed.

Any nondenominated stamps (except for those that bear unique markings, such as First-Class Presort, Nonprofit Org.) may be affixed to items that are sent to foreign countries. The postage value of such stamps is linked to its appropriate domestic rate (e.g., the "Lady Liberty and U.S. Flag" stamp has a postage value of 39 cents).
