Information for Prospective Students

Merrimack College Optional Student Laptop PC Program

To address the challenge of supporting student owned computers, Merrimack College offers an optional laptop purchase program with both hardware and software support.

All participants in the program receive the following 2 year benefits

  • Vendor hardware warranty
  • Accident insurance coverage including spills and breakage
    • Problem diagnosis and software resolution by IT Services staff
    • Walk-in service center in McQuade Library
    • Automated updates for security and new software versions
    • Logistics handling for warranty repairs
    • Loaner machine while repairs are in process
  • Accidental Insurance coverage including spills and breakage
  • Installation of school supported software, including Microsoft Office 2007 and McAfee Anti-virus.
  • Access to vendor program materials
  • Network cable and carrying case
  • One year third party financing available
  • Full purchase price: $1599.00

A purchase of a new laptop with trade-in credit for the initial laptop will be available at the beginning of the student’s third year. This will provide a new machine and extend support coverage for another 2 years. The best market price for trade-ins will be deducted from the total cost of the new machine.
[Please note that support will end after 2 years, if not participating in the trade-in program.]

PCs chosen for the program are machines designed for durability and performance. They are lightweight, high performance machines.

A link for placing orders through our vendor’s website is available on the myMACK.merrimack.edu portal web pages. Machines will be distributed at June Orientation and again before the start of classes in September (for late orders).

For questions concerning this program, you can contact Merrimack’s CIO, Charles Maxson, at 978-837-5429 or charles.maxson@merrimack.edu

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE COLLEGE CANNOT PROVIDE HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE SUPPORT FOR STUDENT MACHINES NOT PURCHASED AS PART OF THIS PROGRAM. PARENTS AND STUDENTS WILL BE REPSONSIBLE FOR ALL REPAIRS AND SOFTWARE PROBLEMS FOR NON-PROGRAM MACHINES AND SHOULD MAKE APPROPRIATE VENDOR ARRANGEMENTS.
