Job Description:

The Communication Studies department at Merrimack College invites applications for the following two tenure-track positions to begin August 2009. Review of applications will begin October 1, 2008 and will continue until both positions are filled, however, applicants are encouraged to have all materials on file by December 5, 2008 to ensure full consideration.  Preliminary interviews will be conducted at the NCA conference in San Diego.

Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to college teaching in the liberal arts tradition, as well as scholarship and service. We seek candidates who enjoy interaction with students and desire a collegial atmosphere.  Experience with service and or/ experiential learning is a plus.  Current teaching load is three 4-credit courses per semester.  PhD required at time of appointment. Please indicate in your cover letter whether you will be attending NCA’s annual conference in San Diego in Novmeber.

Position #1:  Communication generalist equipped to teach several of the following courses: Organizational Communication, Intercultural Communication, Health Communication, and/or Gender Communication.  Candidates who can also teach in the following areas are desirable: Introduction to Communication Studies, Public Speaking, Communication Theory and Methods, Persuasion, Conflict Management, Nonverbal Communication.

Position #2:  Mass Communication specialist equipped to teach several of the following courses: Mass Communication, Public Relations, Advertising, and/or Visual Communication.  Opportunities to develop and teach courses in related areas may exist.  Candidates who can also teach in the following areas are desirable: Public Speaking, Persuasion, Organizational Communication, Computer Mediated Communication.
