Pink Rubber Ducks for Cancer

North Andover, MA (October 1, 2008) –  The reflecting pool on the campus of Merrimack College will be covered with pink rubber ducks in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) for the 2nd Annual Honor Your Cancer Hero program at Merrimack.

Buy Pink Rubber Ducks for Cancer
From October 1-14, pink rubber ducks can be purchased for $1 and personalized with the name of a breast cancer hero and a message of hope and support. All duck proceeds will benefit the Monica Cooper Children of Breast Cancer Fund scholarship for children who have lost a parent to breast cancer. Monica Cooper, who died of breast cancer, was a family friend of Merrimack College student Nichole Baldwin ’09, one of the event organizers. Ducks will be sold daily in the Sakowich Campus Center at Merrimack from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m.

Pink Duck Release Ceremony
On Tuesday, October 15 at 4:30 p.m., there will be a dedication and release of an anticipated 750 pink rubber ducks into Mendel Pond on the Merrimack campus. The ducks will float in the pond for a week in honor of breast cancer heroes.

Throughout the month of October, the Moseley Bridge, above the Mendel reflecting pond, will be decorated for the entire month, including pink lights on the pond in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
