Pink Ducks Float Peacefully on Mendel Pond

For the third consecutive year, over 500 pink rubber ducks were released into Mendel Pond on the Merrimack College campus after a recent dedication ceremony in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In addition to a blessing, ceremony attendees did a silent walk across a bridge, and listened as a Merrimack student shared the story of her mother’s own battle with breast cancer. The pink ducks will float on the pond until the end of October.

Background on the Pink Ducks
From October 1-20, pink rubber ducks were sold at Merrimack for $1 and personalized with the name of a cancer hero and a message of hope and support. All duck proceeds benefit the Monica Cooper Children of Breast Cancer Fund scholarship for children who have lost a parent to breast cancer.
