New Merrimack Board Members

North Andover, MA (August 2008) – The Merrimack College Board of Trustees recently appointed five new members as Trustees of the College: Rev. Joseph L. Farrell, O.S.A.; Rev. William T. Garland, O.S.A.; Karen Kalil-Brown; Marybeth McInnis; and Brian C. Mitchell ’74.

Rev. Joseph L. Farrell, O.S.A. recently served as director of programming and outreach and as an adjunct faculty member at Villanova University. From 1999-2003, Rev. Farrell was director of campus ministry at Merrimack College; a campus minister at Merrimack 1996-99; school chaplain at Msgr. Bonner High School 1994-96 (PA); and Parochial Vicar of St. Augustine Parish in Lawrence, MA 1991-94. He holds an M.A. in theology from Washington Theological Union (MD); and an S.T.L. and S.T.D. in theology from Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome, Italy).

Rev. William T. Garland, O.S.A. currently serves as counselor at the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova, and prior of Our Mother of Good Counsel Monastery at Merrimack College. From 1996-2001, he was director of education for the Diocese of Fall River, MA; served as Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Manchester, N.H. 1991-95; and served as principal and teacher at several other Catholic schools. Rev. Garland holds a B.A. from Villanova University; an M.A. from the Augustinian College (D.C.); and a doctorate from Harvard University. He also received a C.A.S (Certificate of Advanced Studies) in education administration.

Karen Kalil-Brown is vice president and deputy of National & Theater Security Programs (NTSP) for Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems. She most recently conducted a strategic rotation as director of talent management, learning and organizational effectiveness. She graduated from Boston College with bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and economics. She is also a graduate of Raytheon’s Management Development Program and the Defense Acquisition University.

Marybeth McInnis practices law with McInnis Law office in North Andover, MA. She is a member of the Probate Section of both the American and Massachusetts Bar Associations; the Estate Planning Section of the Boston Bar Association; and the Lawrence Bar Association. She was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Merrimack Valley YMCA and was a Director of the Board of the Friends of Merrimack College. She attended Holy Cross College, Lesley College, and Suffolk University Law School where she sits on the Dean’s Advisory Committee.

Brian C. Mitchell ’74 is current president of Bucknell University (PA). From 1998-2004, he was president of Washington & Jefferson College; President of Association of Independent Colleges of Pennsylvania 1995-98, Council of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (1991-95), Pennsylvania Independent College and University Research Center (1991-98), Foundation for Independent Colleges of Pennsylvania (1995-98). He was program officer, division of state programs, national endowment for the humanities, Washington D.C. (1985-91), and has held multiple college instructor positions. He holds a B.A. from Merrimack; and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Rochester (NY).
