Merrimack Names Assistant to the
Vice President for Academic Affairs
North Andover, MA (July 22, 2008) – Dr. Raymond Shaw, associate professor of psychology, was recently appointed assistant to the vice president for academic affairs for Merrimack College.

In this new role, Dr. Shaw will focus on the development of new academic programs, coordinate the ongoing transition to a 4x4 curriculum (four courses/four credits vs. five classes/three credits), manage assessment, conduct institutional research, and develop ways to attract and mentor undeclared students. He will also continue teaching for the Psychology Department.
In addition to teaching at Merrimack since 1996, Dr. Shaw has provided service to the academic administration in a variety of capacities, the most recent of which has been as assistant dean of liberal arts.
As an associate professor of psychology, Dr. Shaw’s research is primarily in the psychology of aging, memory, and improving the teaching of statistical methods in psychology. He teaches Psychology of Aging, Cognitive Psychology, and Statistical Methods in Psychology.
“It’s a real honor to be part of Merrimack’s academic leadership team as we transition to a new president and a new curriculum,” said Dr. Shaw. “Merrimack is an exciting place to be right now, and I’m looking forward to using my experience and abilities in my new position.”
Shaw earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Georgetown University, his doctoral degree at the University of Toronto, and was awarded a two-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He served as an assistant professor at West Virginia University for five years before coming to Merrimack College as an associate professor in 1996. Since coming to Merrimack, Shaw has served on a number of faculty committees and was also chair of the psychology department for three years. He currently resides in Bradford, MA with his family.
