Merrimack Partners With Simmons College

North Andover, MA (October 20, 2008) -- Merrimack College and The Simmons College School of Health Sciences recently established an articulation agreement for preferred admission of qualified fourth year (graduating senior) undergraduate students to the Direct Entry Master of Science Nurse Practitioner program and to the Doctorate in Physical Therapy program at Simmons College.

This agreement offers preferred admission for up to four students from Merrimack College to these programs each year.

“We are thrilled to establish this association with Simmons, which has a long history as a nationally recognized leader in nursing and physical therapy education,” said Dr. Kathleen Fitzpatrick, associate professor and chair of the Health Sciences Department at Merrimack College. “Both nursing and physical therapy are strong areas of interest for our graduates and this agreement offers the opportunity to advance their education and careers in an excellent graduate program.”

Application to these programs does not require a specific undergraduate major, and any undergraduate discipline will be considered as long as the student has completed the required courses and other criteria.  Specific course pre-requisite and GPA requirements must be met to be considered for the program.

At Merrimack College, interested students should contact Dr. FitzPatrick, Mendel 351, Kathleen.fitzpatrick@merrimack.edu, for further details.

At Simmons College, potential applicants should contact the School of Health Sciences regarding the application process at 617-521-2605 or shs@simmons.edu. Students requiring information about the nursing program should call the Nursing Department at 617-521-2141 or for information about the physical therapy program they should call the Physical Therapy Department at 617-521-2635.
