Business Students Work with Mass State Police
In an effort to bring more awareness to the heritage of the Massachusetts State Police, Merrimack College business students are creating a plan to turn the old Grafton, MA barracks into a museum.
The Project
As part of the Advanced Analysis and Decision Making course, students are working to create a business plan, which will include ways of raising funds for the future Massachusetts State Police Museum and Learning Center. The business plan will be presented to the state police committee with hopes that certain suggestions will be implemented.
The Players
The project came to Merrimack through the College’s Chief of Police Services Ron Guilmette, a retired Massachusetts State Trooper, and Captain Thomas Donohue and Lieutenant Phil Cahill at state police headquarters in Framingham, MA.
“Merrimack students are assisting the committee in preserving a legacy of service to the citizens of the commonwealth, and learning first-hand about the establishment of the Massachusetts State Police and its proud tradition as being the finest and oldest state police organization in the United States,” said Ron Guilmette, chief of police services at Merrimack College.
Merrimack business student Emily Cummings ’10 is part of the team working on the state police museum and learning center project.
“We have come up with a few ways for the state police to raise money so they will be able to not only open a museum in the current space they are occupying (the old Grafton State Police Barracks), but also build a learning center in the back of the museum. We are very excited to have the opportunity to be working on this project, and we have a lot of great ideas for Chief Guilmette and his committee.”
The students have been working directly with Chief Guilmette to develop ideas for the project. Some fundraising options the students developed include an annual golf tournament, a road race, and an open house at the museum.
